It’s official! The Mt. Washington Hillclimb, known as the Climb to the Clouds, returns to the Mt. Washington Auto Road on August 13, 14 & 15, 2027. Please mark your calendars!
This is a big one for the history books: it’s the first time the hillclimb will run in back-to-back years since 2001. The Sports Car Club of New Hampshire will once again sanction North America’s oldest automotive hillclimb, first run in July 1904, alongside our friends at the Mt. Washington Auto Road. See the full Press Release on the Mt. Washington Auto Road website.
The weekend keeps its three-day format. Practice runs are Friday, August 13, and Saturday, August 14. Then on race day, Sunday, August 15, a field of up to 80 drivers each gets two timed runs, one in the morning and one in the afternoon, up the 7.6-mile road to the 6,288′ summit.
And what a bar to chase! In 2026, more than 4,500 spectators came out over the weekend and watched Scott Speed set a new course record of 5:11.89. We can’t wait to see what 2027 brings.
Want to compete? Driver registration opens in early November, and we’ll publish the 2027 driver rules in the two weeks that follow (do not reference old rules). Keep an eye on our Climb to the Clouds page and subscribe to our newsletter (at the bottom of the site) so you don’t miss it!
Want to volunteer? Volunteer registration also opens in early November. Our volunteers make this event possible, and you’ll be nearly as close to the action as the drivers!
Want to spectate? Tickets are coming soon. Get more information here!
