Turkey Rally 2020 Recap

November 25th, 2020

SCCNH held its 2020 Turkey Trot Rally on Sunday, November 15.  It was a beautiful fall day to drive around the southern part of the state, and believe it or not all 15 cars that started the rally made it to the end and turned in their score cards.

We had a total of 16 entrants, after the drivers meeting Carlos and Melinda Ferreira withdrew their entry due to the description of some of the roads and having chosen to use their beautiful Porsche 911 as their ride.  I don’t blame them at all for wanting to get in another ride in their car, and I am certain they made a wise choice.  They did say that they would be back next year with their truck.

The rally travelled approximately 125 miles of paved and unpaved roads throughout Concord, Bow, Dunbarton, Weare, Hopkinton, Contoocook, Amherst, Goffstown, Manchester, and who knows where else!  There were a total of 10 checkpoints (7 manned and 3 DIY) – 6 of the 7 manned checkpoints were all in the Dunbarton/Weare flood control badlands.  The competitors were well versed in approaching the same checkpoint a few times in a row!

All of our entrants claimed to have a good time, and were smiling for the most part at the end.  Several marriages were tested as were some friendships and relations, but I think Mike Collier had the right idea – he ran it by himself!

Since none of the top 3 were able to stay for the awards we made the decision to raffle off the 3rd prize pies – the winner was very happy with that decision.  The first and second prizes (Frozen Turkey Breasts and Drum Sticks) were donated to the Loudon Food Pantry – they too were very happy for the donation.

We held a raffle of several prizes donated by Carlsons Motors, Merchants Auto, and Paul Giblin raising a total of $250.00.  Dave Patten donated the monies for the room rental – those funds will be paid to the Wounded Warriors Foundation.  The profits from the rally will be donated to a charity chosen by the club this winter.

We would like to express a sincere thank you to Paul Giblin and Denise Patten for spending the day working checkpoints and helping coordinate the event.  We would also like to thank our great partners; Carlsons Motor Sales, and the Red Blazer Restaurant  — both in Concord NH — they are really great people.

You will find the results attached — Thanks to all and we hope to see you next year — Stay Safe
